Kettlebell 101 | Square One Fitness Albuquerque

Kettlebell 101 is a beginner-friendly, rehab-informed class that teaches you how to pick things up, put 'em down, and keep doing it for the next 30 years.

Be honest: when's the last time you picked something up and felt a little nervous about it? A bag of dog food;  your grandkids; a gallon of milk when your back was already tight. Have you ever pulled a muscle bending over just to plug in your phone??

Your body has a threshold. Below that threshold, everyday life is easy. Above it, everyday life hurts. The whole point of Kettlebell 101 is to push that threshold higher and higher so that the things you want to do without thinking don't require a second thought.

This is functional fitness that allows you to live your life with confidence!

Why Kettlebells?

Kettlebells are one of the most effective tools for building real-life functional strength that helps you when lifting, carrying, rotating, hinging and stabilizing. Done correctly and with proper instruction, kettlebell training is safe for people recovering from injury, returning to exercise after a long break, and people who have never set foot in a weight room in their lives.

What You'll Work On

Kettlebell 101 covers the foundational movements of kettlebell training at a pace that's right for you:

  • Swings
  • Deadlifts
  • Goblet Squats
  • Get-ups
  • Cleans
  • Snatches

Never heard of most of those? Perfect! That's exactly who this class is designed for.

If you're already familiar with kettlebells, this class can help you fix the form issues that have been quietly accumulating.

Every movement is taught from the ground up, with careful attention to what your body's doing and why. Our trainers are watching for the compensations and tension patterns that lead to injury down the road, and they'll help catch and correct them.

The Environment

You'll be working out in a class with a maximum of four people. No crowds or loud music drowning out your trainer's instructions - just a small, calm space where you're known by name, coached by someone who's paying attention, and free to ask questions without feeling like you're slowing anyone down.

Who This Is For

Kettlebell 101 is for you if:

  • You want to stay strong enough to keep doing the things you love: hiking the Sandias, skiing Taos, staying active with your family (and plugging in that phone without jacking up your back!)
  • You've been avoiding weight training because you're not sure how to do it safely
  • You're in perimenopause or menopause and you've heard that strength training matters for bone density, but you don't know where to begin
  • You want to stop worrying about whether your body will cooperate when you need it to do something

A Note on Bone Density

For women in perimenopause and menopause, this is more than just a fitness class. As estrogen declines, bone density becomes a genuine health concern. Strength training, especially loaded movement like kettlebell work, is one of the most evidence-backed tools for protecting and building bone density. Dr. Blair built this program with that in mind.
