If you work at a desk, here's one of the simplest things you can do for your body today: get up every 20 minutes and move!

That's it. No gym or special equipment required. JUST MOVE!

Grab a Theraband if you have one, but honestly, you don't need it. The goal is simply to get some circulation going and bring your spine out of the forward-flexed position it's been stuck in. Focus especially on extension movement, which is the direction your back needs most after hours of sitting.

A few ideas to get you started: do a slow backstroke motion with your arms, move in whatever direction feels good, or just shift your weight and breathe. If you want to make it genuinely fun, put on a song you like and have a 30-second dance party. No one's watching. And if they are, they're probably jealous.

Don't stress if your shoulder mobility is limited (we're talking T-Rex ranges!) Work within whatever range you have. The point isn't perfect form, it's simply getting blood moving through your back and shoulders after a long stretch of stillness.

Your body is designed to move. Consistent, low-stakes movement breaks like this one are one of the most underrated things you can do for long-term spine health, whether you're 35 or 65.

If you're ready to build on the basics and start a real strength program, Square One Fitness offers small group personal training in Albuquerque for adults who want to move better and feel stronger. Book a free fitness consultation here.
